Composition of Two Genres
Rationale-
For the purpose of this essay, we will be addressing the idea of climate change and the reason for this is to bring awareness to this situation that affects the entire world, not just our country alone. This idea of climate change is that the planet is warming due to the release of CO2 into the Earths atmosphere causing large amounts of agricultural issue, melting of the artic, and massive changes in weather. To combat this change, people from all over the world are rising up against their governments to try and persuade them to take on new initiative. The two genres I want to use to explain my claim are a poem and scholarly article because they both hold different values for this claim. A poem addresses the audience of art lovers and musicians because poems influence their way of life and creativity. So, with creating a climate change-based poem will bring awareness to the issue through the youth or in this case, my generation. A scholarly article gives factual information on climate change and the evidence provided are geared more towards high school and college students doing research on current events. The audience I chose to address holds a big part of my argument because when we think about the U.S government today, the actions they take are affecting our generation for when we get older. With addressing this audience, this new generation is able to combat the works of government and make the world as we know it better for us and for everyone living in the U.S.
Genre #1: Poem
The climate all over is changing
Everyone seems to be very confused
The plants, animals and humans
Their faces do not look very amused
Global warming and greenhouse gases
To see the harm,
You don’t need glasses
We all start our new jobs
From the day of our birth
It’s a real important one
To take care of mother Earth
Plant a Tree
These things can be proved valuable
We can all be helpers
If everybody is more accountable
Genre #2: Scholarly Article

Climate Change is Making Headway Throughout the Country and the World

Climate Change in the U.S.
Living in a place like the great New York City, we don’t experience the immense pressure of climate change. We as a city are going through the small things that aren’t really showing a big impact on our daily lives. Having warmer days in the winter and shorter amounts of sunlight are things that New Yorkers have become accustomed to in the recent years. But, we are aware of what is going on and things are really starting to “hot up” in the city.
As the decade is coming to a close and a new beginning is coming on January 1st, people around the world and in the U.S. are not letting the issue of climate change become something that is left in the 2010’s but something that should be focused on until the issue itself is resolved. Looking at the impact climate change has on the U.S. itself; we have a couple of issues going on that will surprise you. One state that is feeling the change is New Jersey or some might refer to as the Garden State. According to experts, New Jersey is considered the fasted warming state and has risen 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit since 1895 and it may seem like a little change, but it holds a drastic impact. Lakes like Hopatcong were known for their large skating events and ice harvesting, but the increasing temperature has stunned that tradition. The people of New Jersey consider their century long tradition just black and white photos in a museum and that alone says a lot. Cities like New York and Los Angeles are experiencing rising temperatures that will affect the 34 million people living there. Also, recently in the New York area there have been experiences of heavy rainfall that leads to major flooding and sewer problems all throughout the state. States in the Midwest are experiencing extreme change like Nebraska, which is receiving more severe rainstorms, but the actual temperature of the state has only risen a mere One-degree Fahrenheit. But one thing about this particular state is that it holds the highest amount of wind which makes it a top contender for the wind turbine industry and the energy produced can be put to power homes and cars which helps the energy cause throughout the U.S. This great country of ours has the potential and power to fix the big issue of climate change and if action is not taken soon, our world will be in shambles.
Climate Change Around the World
When looking at the whole world view of the climate change problem, around the globe places are heating up and ice caps are melting causing severe droughts that are ruining people’s lives in agricultural communities. In certain countries like Guatemala, the rising heat has left the people running to the U.S. border for asylum. When the U.S should be helping them, the President actually increased border patrol security in order to combat illegal entry into the U.S. But one does not realize if you don’t help someone when in dire need, they resort to such circumstances to survive and protect those they love. In October, Trump posted a tweet in response to the illegal entry into the U.S. by saying “Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador were not able to do the job of stopping people from leaving their country and coming illegally to the U.S. We will now begin cutting off, or substantially reducing, the massive foreign aid routinely given to them”. His stance on the topic of Immigration is very different from his thoughts on climate change. He focuses more on the fact that people are coming illegally to the U.S. but does not see the reason why they are fleeing from their homes. When a deal was struck between the Guatemalan government and the U.S., an entire. Outline was drafted to ensure the professionalism of the issue. The outline states, “ Enhancing border security is sought in order to reduce irregular migration flows; carry out the necessary training to support and enhance criminal investigations; concrete actions to counteract human trafficking and human smuggling; and the interdiction of illicit drug trafficking…” Nowhere in the agreement is food insecurity or foreign aid mentioned”. The outline drawn up by the U.S. makes it intentions clear and that is they will not partake in any issues involving climate change and they are only there to stop the flow illegal immigration. The problem of climate change around the world is only getting worse and the people in danger are leading a life that is not ideal and safe. If the world comes together we can use the support of everyone to make our world a safer place for generations to come.

Reflection:
When looking at my audience strategy for composing and choosing my genres for my project, they’re certain aspects of my topic that need to be analyzed carefully. For addressing the issue of climate change and bringing awareness to the topic the obvious choice of audience is the younger generation or as said before, my generation. People my age are changing the world, those younger and older are all doing their part in order to stop this huge plague from taking over the world. Once I was able to narrow down my choice of audience, choosing my genres become very easy. For my genres, choosing a poem relates to the large group of art loving and poets around the world. A scholarly article also proves valuable because since climate change is a big current events topic and many high school and college students would use such article to argue their points. My stance of support for climate change is a positive when creating this composition because everyone who are for solving this issue would be interested in reading poems about climate change and would want to use articles to convey their own messages. When thinking of the rhetorical situation with this kind of project, the aspects come easy because everything is very straight forward. The stance, audience, tone and genre are all very clear for a project based off of climate change. Stance of being in a supportive mood, tone of being assertive and wanting my point to get heard, and the previously stated genre and audience. The process of creating this entire project flowed like water and everything fit into each other allowing the point I made to be portrayed as clear as day. At first I was not able to find ideas on what I wanted to write about but after lots of research on the topic and using previous assignments as help or references I was able to come up with a great set of genres which I believe was able to portray my point across a large scale audience like my generation.
